Let’s work together to contribute to Taiwan’s sustainable development and move towards a bright future!
As international sustainable development thoughts and the globalization of economic and trade activities gain importance, the topic of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has now become the center of attention. Many international companies have begun to give weight to CSR in economic activities, regarded now as one of the key strategic activities of business operations. Corporate Sustainability Reports (CSR) or Corporate Social Responsibility Reports (CSR Reports) refer to the information disclosure activities carried out by companies to demonstrate their commitment, performance and results in fulfilling their social responsibilities, presented with digital information such as published reports and web pages.
The Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE), hereinafter referred to as “the Institute,” established the Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA) in 2008 to encourage enterprises to enhance both the quality of their corporate sustainability practices and the breadth of their sustainability-related information disclosure. The goal is to strengthen corporate commitment to sustainable development, environmental friendliness, and social welfare. The TCSA provides a platform for domestic enterprises to exchange sustainability information and observe best practices. Since its inception, the awards have received enthusiastic responses from both the corporate sector and the wider community. After nearly 18 years of advocacy and effort, as of 2024, a total of 882 companies have participated in the TCSA. The combined annual revenue of these companies in comparison to Taiwan’s GDP in 2023 amounts to 155%, underscoring the award’s influence. Today, the TCSA is recognized as a highly credible and prestigious benchmark in Taiwan’s sustainability landscape and is hailed as “the Oscars of sustainability.”
The TCSA (Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards) comprises four major award categories: the Corporate Comprehensive Performance Award and the Corporate Specific Performance Award, which encourage all sectors to enhance sustainability performance; the Sustainability Reporting Award, which promotes transparency in information disclosure; and the Outstanding Sustainability Professional Award, which honors individuals who have made exemplary contributions to advancing corporate sustainability. The awards not only adopt international evaluation standards, but TCSA has also continuously expanded its judging panel. In 2024, a total of 1,731 judges participated in the evaluation process, including 392 renowned experts and scholars from various fields, as well as 1,339 volunteer reviewers. This large-scale jury ensures that the selection process is objective, fair, impartial, and rigorous. Since 2018, the award ceremony has been held in conjunction with the Global Corporate Sustainability Forum (GCSF), bringing together prominent guests from domestic and international industries, government, academia, and research institutions to witness and celebrate role model enterprises in sustainability, showcasing Taiwan’s outstanding achievements on the global stage.
As sustainability concepts become increasingly widespread and public awareness of ESG grows, along with the rise of green finance and investment principles, the number and diversity of participants in the Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA) continue to expand. In response to these evolving trends and to further promote sustainability practices across different sectors, the awards aim to recognize outstanding achievements and contributions in implementing sustainability, ESG investment, and the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Building upon the successful experience of TCSA, the Institute has progressively introduced new awards since 2020: the TSAA (Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards) and the Taiwan SIA (Sustainable Investment Awards), followed by the TWBA (Taiwan Biodiversity Awards) in 2023. In 2024, the university and hospital categories originally part of TCSA were established as independent award programs: the TUSA (Taiwan University Sustainability Awards) and the THSA (Taiwan Healthcare Sustainability Awards). Additionally, several new awards were launched, including the TwSAA (Taiwan Sustainable Architecture Awards), the Taiwan Tourism Sustainability Awards, the Taiwan Agriculture Sustainability Awards, and the Taiwan Retail Sustainability Awards. In 2025, the Asia-Pacific Sustainable MICE Awards will be introduced, with the aim of encouraging more organizations to engage in diverse and inclusive sustainable development initiatives.
In the face of a rapidly changing world, only those who embrace "sustainability" remain resilient. We sincerely invite domestic enterprises, international corporations, hospitals, universities, government agencies, and NGOs to join us in expanding and advancing sustainability efforts. Together, let us lead by example and create a positive impact on society, contributing collectively to Taiwan’s sustainable development and moving toward a brighter future!
